ZeniMax Online Studios has outlined major changes coming to Elder Scrolls Online’s new Tamriel Tomes reward system in Update 50 this June, responding to player feedback about Season transition mechanics and progression clarity.
The studio acknowledged confusion around the 2,000 Tome Points rollover cap between Seasons. Currently, excess points above this cap are lost during Season transitions. Update 50 will convert these excess points into gold after the automatic reward claimer completes, though the conversion ratio is still being determined.
What’s changing with the Tamriel Tome?
The reward auto-claimer system, which activates at Season’s end, will prioritize high-value collectibles and currencies over consumables. It claims rewards in reverse order, starting from the highest unlocked page, skipping item bundles like Crown Poisons and Supply Packs. You will be able to preview this system on the Public Test Server, starting April 13th.
It should help those who take a break and forget about the Tamriel Tome, considering how ESO has historically used its Expansion features. So, it’s giving you some leeway for getting used to the new system.
Also, ZeniMax is offering a one-time refund option. From April 2nd-30th, you can contact Customer Support to convert unspent Tome Points back into Caches of Tome Points (in 2,000-point increments), allowing you to carry progress between Seasons without penalty.
Update 50 features for the Tamriel Tome
While Zenimax reveal content updates coming to Update 50, as seen above, there’s some clarity coming to the Tamriel Tome too.
Update 50 introduces several quality-of-life improvements that should make things a little easier. If you’re interested in Weekly Challenges, you will be able to reroll for gold (starting at 500 gold, capping at 10,000) after exhausting your five free weekly rerolls.
Once bonus pages unlock (at 20,000 Tome Points), Weekly Challenges become repeatable twice as often, effectively doubling available points for players who want to accelerate progress.
UI improvements include batch-claiming completed challenges and refined reward tooltips.
The studio also confirmed several bug fixes rolling out in the April 20th incremental patch, including issues with Sanctum Ophidia, Imperial City, and zone-specific kill count challenges. The Daily Login Seasonal Challenge bug remains under investigation, with fixes targeted for Update 50.
The news comes from a recent blog posts from the ZeniMax team, going over some early pain points for the new system.
There are some immediate system improvements planned for the Tamriel Tome as it gets more integrated into the Elder Scrolls Online ecosystem. There are also a few pressing questions regarding the following, as outlined in the said blog post, which are:
- “Is there enough variety for the Weekly Challenges?”
- “Are certain Challenges unpopular and frequently re-rolled or avoided?”
- “Does the pace of earning Tome Points feel right and rewarding?”
- And others…
These are the types of things that ZeniMax wants feedback on to make the Tamriel Tome feel more natural and intuitive to progress through, including the usual content players get stuck in with during regular ESO gameplay activities.
If you’re curious, you can check out the full blog post. It’s quite long, but it’s worth reading if you’re finding yourself loving or having a few frustrations with the new system.
