The Xbox Games Showcase is today, Sunday 7th June, at 6pm BST (7pm CEST / 1pm EDT / 10am PDT), and we’re covering all the news and announcements from live, right here, in this article.
Updates appear automatically so you don’t need to refresh the page and our coverage-proper begins closer to the show at around 5.30pm. But we’ll be waffling in the lead-up to it. Be sure to leave a comment and join in – you know the drill.
What do we expect from today’s Xbox show? The only thing we know for sure is the Gears of War prequel E-Day will have a dedicated deep-dive segment after the main showcase, which is something Microsoft has done for other games in the recent past.
We also know from an Xbox Podcast (via GameSpot) that Microsoft’s next-gen Xbox console Project Helix definitely won’t feature – boo hiss! “The focus here is on the games,” Microsoft Studios boss Matt Booty said. “There won’t be Helix news. Helix will not be in this showcase. We want to get everything about that right.”
Nevertheless, today’s show is a big moment for new Xbox leader Asha Sharma, who’s spent months telling everyone she’s going to “reset” the Xbox division and make the console a more aggressive contender again. Today’s her chance to solidify that message and convince a core gaming crowd. But how will she do that?
Games, naturally, will be at the heart of it, and to that end I think we’re likely to see more of inXile’s promising time-beding RPG Clockwork Revolution, and maybe get a release date for it. We’re probably going to see more of zombie survival game State of Decay 3 – and maybe some actual gameplay this time – and there’s a rumour going around that Toys for Bob is rebooting Spyro, so might we see that here as well?
What of the big-guns, though? I wonder if it’s time for Bethesda to wheel out The Elder Scrolls 6 cannon and end the showcase with an almighty bang – it’s been long enough since Starfield now that it makes sense. And is it also time for a glimpse at the Blade game Arkane is working on? There’s plenty of potential excitement in the wings.
Join us later at just before 6pm for the full show.
