Somerville is bringing its mysterious alien invasion to PlayStation consoles on August 31. The game comes from Jumpship, a studio formed by former Playdead (Limbo, Inside) CEO Dino Patti. It centers on a small family rocked by a sudden alien invasion of Earth, who must now survive by running and hiding. The game’s eerie atmosphere and lack of dialogue lend to the game’s enigmatic nature, and multiple endings offer various truths about the threat you face. Somerville launched for Xbox and PC last November to generally warm reviews, though was noted for its rough technical performance, which has since been improved in…

The OnePlus Open will be that brand’s first foldable smartphone, and we’ve seen it in some leaked CAD-based renders back in June. In the meantime, the company itself confirmed the name, but a lot of rumors stated it got delayed from its initially planned late August introduction, in order to change up the screen maker. Well, it now looks like the changes will be much more substantial than that. A new set of OnePlus Open renders has been leaked today, this one purportedly based on pre-production unit visuals. As you can see in the side-by-side comparison below, the aspect ratio…

The design and working principle of the piezoelectric stator of SLPUM. Credit: Research As an electromechanical actuator, symmetric-actuating devices are often used in the fields where symmetrical motion, drive, and control are required, such as grasping or scissoring operations, and fast symmetric opening or closing of microchannels. One scenario with strong demand is minimally invasive surgery, including precision grasping and cutting tumor cells, retinal microsurgery, etc. In the field of micro electromechanical devices, the scissoring or grasping operation essentially belongs to two symmetrical actuations between two end-effectors. However, there is almost no one motor that can directly generate two symmetrical…

Following the funding news,…

A hot potato: Some features in Tesla vehicles are locked behind paywalls, similar to in-app purchases for smartphone software. As these extra functions are restricted by computer hardware and software rather than core mechanical components, hackers can theoretically unlock them for free, a process that researchers will explain next week. Researchers from Technische Universität Berlin claim to have jailbroken Tesla vehicles, allowing them to freely access features normally locked behind in-car purchases. They plan to present their detailed findings on August 9 at the 2023 Black Hat USA conference. According to a preliminary description, the hack unlocked additional connectivity functionality,…

The vanilla iPhone models are still stuck on 12MP resolution, but this year things are finally about to change – the iPhone 15 and 15 Max are rumored to have 48MP main sensors. Interestingly, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reports that this new sensor will be better than the one found in the iPhone 15 Pro pair.
