Steam is taking extra measures to keep underaged gamers from accessing mature games.
On August 29th, Steam launched a new age verification method for UK players that will block sexual and violent games from kids. This follows Steam’s recent publishing rule changes made on July 16th, which resulted in adult games being removed from Steam. Gooners have tried to fight against Steam but the protests haven’t changed anything.
New Age Verification Methods For UK Players on Steam
To comply with the UK Online Safety Act, Steam has added a step to its age verification method that it hopes will block little kids from playing games with too many boobies.
According to Steam’s update, UK users cannot access store pages that feature mature content without verifying their age. How? Add a valid credit card.
Head to the “Account Details” page after logging in, then put in the credit card details. This includes the cardholder’s name and billing address. After adding the credit card, you’ll need to enter a one-time password. You won’t need to do this if you already have a credit card on your account.
Gamers Fight to Goon to Steam Games
Ever since July, there have been massive protests against Steam and its payment processors over the strict regulations against sexual content that got porn games taken off the platform. About 100 adult games were removed from Steam following these changes, including Escape From the Village of Lustful Rituals and Brainwashing with Tentacles.
To the gamers who have started boycotting Steam, it isn’t about wanting these games back—it’s about censorship. Allegedly.
Said one Reddit user: “The point isn’t that any actually valuable games were removed. The point is that a far right, moms-for-liberty type group managed to strongarm payment processors into forcing Steam to de-list content that is perfectly legal (if disgusting and distateful).
“It would be FINE if Steam were to rule that incest and rape aren’t kosher (and in fact, Steam doesn’t sell these games anyways in countries where it isn’t legal, like mine). The thing is, it isn’t Steam making the decision. It’s the payment processors. They are stepping in and controlling what goods can be offered on a storefront.”
These gamers don’t want to fap to the games, they just want the right to fap to the games. Not sure if I find this to be a very important fight, but some gamers claim that censorship will only get worse if we keep allowing these anime vaginas to be banned from Steam.
I mean, maybe. Let’s fight the good fight, gooners. Thanks for your service. Don’t let them control how we spend our money!
