Splitgate: Arena Reloaded is saved as 1047 brings back Teabag Confirmed mode

Splitgate: Arena Reloaded may be saved after a long-time fan favorite event is brought back just in time for those alone on Valentine’s Day.

The gaming community has been arguing over the sustainability of Splitgate: Arena Reloaded for the past few weeks. With under 1,000 active players since the game’s re-launch, it seemed like the game didn’t have what it takes to survive in the heavily saturated shooter genre, even if the gameplay was promising. While die-hard fans have continued to support and defend Splitgate: Arena Reloaded, skeptics in the gaming community felt it just didn’t have the traction to stay alive after previous blunders turned gamers away from the re-launched title.

Now, however, it seems like the game is saved.

A return to the glory days of teabagging in shooters

On January 23rd, Splitgate: Arena Reloaded took a break from its overly serious tweets to share some whimsy with gamers that miss the good ol’ days of multiplayer shooters. Now through February 6th, Splitgate has introduced the Teabag Takeover event, which includes the return of Teabag Confirmed.

A fun spin on the classic game mode, Kill Confirm, Teabag Confirmed requires players to kill, crouch twice, and confirm. Teabagging the bodies is the only way to confirm the kill, which means you’ll see plenty of gamers running around the map, hoping to sit on some faces and disrespect some corpses.

The reaction from the gaming community has been largely positive. Teabag Confirmed was a popular limited-time mode in Splitgate 1. The game mode was born out of devs’ saltiness after a gaming journalist wrote that teabagging was toxic and should be banned back in the day. The OG mode had a laugh track in it, which made it even funnier.

Teabagging has been around since the late 1990s, originating in games like Quake and Counter-Strike. However, the act of disrespect grew into a phenomenon in Halo: Combat Evolved. Since eliminated players could see their screen for a few seconds, gamers began to taunt those dead gamers with the teabag emote.

Even though the new version of Teabag Confirmed doesn’t seem to have that little detail, gamers have still been excited to see the game mode’s return. A lot of early critiques of Arena Reloaded revolved around the game straying too far from what made Splitgate 1 special. Well, this should ease the minds of those critics.

Either way, it brings back some of the classic saltiness and drama of early shooters and the gaming community is here for it.
