Boulies is back with a new ergonomic chair, the Master Rex. With highlighted features including the built-in leg rest and improvements to lumbar support, the Rex looks like a comprehensive solution for those looking to sit properly during desk use and recline and relax during downtime. On paper, it looks like a winner, but how does the Boulies Master Rex fare in the real world? Here is my review.
Get it built
Boulies is one of the better companies when it comes to a smooth chair-building process. Instructions are clear and it’s difficult to go wrong. Of course, I’d suggest first-time builders carve out a good chunk of time so that they can take their time and avoid any frustration. It’s simple enough, but shouldn’t be rushed.
Once put together, the Master Rex is impressive in its quality of materials. While there are cheaper options out there, they never feel “premium.” Boulies has stuck a fine balance between quality and pricing and it’s a good place to be.
Water-resistant fabric vs. PU leather
I opted for the water-resistant fabric material, which I find more comfortable throughout the year when living in the U.K. For those in colder climates or with a room equipped with air conditioning, Boulies offers a PU leather option.
I’ve never really gotten along with PU leather, as I get too warm too quickly, but your mileage may vary. For those choosing between the two materials, I’d opt for the water-resistant fabric.
Put your feet up

As mentioned in the intro, the integrated leg rest is new to the Master Rex. This pairs well with the recline, which goes back up to 165 degrees. This combination means users can lie almost all of the way back and have their feet supported.
While I don’t put the recliner that far, I do like the leg rest for sitting back while playing more relaxing games or chilling while watching a movie. It’s also nice for when you’re just looking to take a break from desktop work/gaming.
Improved lumbar support

The lumbar support is also worth highlighting as the Master Rex allows users to fine-tune where the lumbar support is positioned. I’m especially happy to see this, as many chairs opt for a one-size-fits-all approach that simply isn’t good enough.
Happily, the Master Rex includes all of the features that made previous Boulies products so impressive. The company has simply added to an already-excellent chair in ways that feel like a significant evolution without cutting back.
Pillow woes
While I’ve come away mostly impressed by the Boulies Master Rex, there is one area that I’d like to see improved. It’s a minor point, but I’d like to see a better headrest pillow included in the box. I’d love to see a magnetic headrest worked into the design for a cleaner and more modern look.

Final Verdict
At $420 (£409.99), the Boulies Master Rex is a solid all-rounder. It offers a great mix of comfort, features, and quality, making it a strong choice for both work and play. While there’s still a bit of room for improvement—especially with the headrest—it’s an easy chair to recommend for most users looking for a versatile upgrade.
