Usually, when you go to boot up a multiplayer game, you call on your squad to get in on the action to make the experience that bit more fun. However, there are times when either everyone isn’t available, or you want to get fully immersed on your lonesome for more intense battles.
If this is how you’re feeling when jumping in on Marathon, you’ll definitely need to know if there are solos or duo queues, or whether you’re going to be left wanting.
Does Marathon have solo or duo queues?
If you’ve watched any Marathon gameplay, this is usually very squad dominant. The game currently maxes out at trios and is probably best played that way at the moment due to the flow of matches.
However, if you want to play as a solo or duo, it’s a bit of a mixed bag.
To start, there are no duo queues in Marathon at this time. This is pretty unfortunate if you’re looking for some two-on-two fights, but maybe something Bungie will implement later down the line if the Server Slam goes well and the playerbase is healthy enough.
You can be a duo, but when you matchmake, it will find you a third Runner to complete the squad.
Solos, on the other hand, are very much a possibility. This is excellent, and a much-requested feature after the initial Alpha tests took place.
To go in as either a trio or solo, you just need to toggle the fill/no fill setting akin to that of a plethora of other multiplayer titles. Obviously, if you choose no fill, you’ll not be provided with another player on your team, but fill will get randoms in to aid you on your Tau Ceti adventures.
The one deviation to the formula is that you can enter games as a Rook to do some scavenging and exfil, but this can only be done as a solo player. The caveat, though, is that you will be thrown in against trios, so don’t expect to live for long if you’re not being sneaky.
