Blacklyte Kraken Pro Gaming Chair Review

The Blacklyte Kraken Pro is a premium gaming chair built around adjustable lumbar support, a wide seat, 4D armrests, and a magnetic head pillow. After using it as my main chair for two weeks, including full eight-to-ten-hour workdays, here is my review.

Comfortable from the start

The chair arrived well packaged in a single box with no damage. Assembly posed no special challenge and, once built, the Kraken Pro immediately felt like a solid, premium chair. The design has a clear gaming influence, mostly because of the company logo, which appears four times in total.

Blacklyte describes the chair as “medium-firm,” but I found the cold-cure foam a little softer than that suggests. That’s not a bad thing for me, as it has proven very comfortable from the outset and feels supportive without being overly firm. The wide seating area also gives users plenty of room to change position.

Support where it matters

The dynamic air lumbar support was the feature I appreciated most during testing. I could quickly set the pressure to suit my back, then secure it once it felt right. This is a useful improvement over fixed support.

I’m 6’7” and found the chair comfortable, although my wife, at 5’10”, felt more naturally suited to it. Blacklyte lists a maximum load of 120kg (265lbs), but does not provide a clear recommended height range. I had no major problems during testing, yet I would like to see more specific sizing information for taller buyers before they commit to a premium purchase like this, to avoid any potential headaches with returns.

The 4D armrests are smooth, secure, and easy to position for typing, gaming, or reclining. Their magnetic detachability is a useful extra, while the magnetic head pillow is great to see when some competitors are still using a strap solution.

Made for work and play

The recline range is useful when moving between focused work, gaming, and watching something. Rocking is smooth and controlled, and the chair remains stable while moving. The 50mm PU casters were another highlight, moving quietly and easily across my floor. (Some chairs are noisier than others!)

My main issue is the leatherette upholstery. The surface looks good and should be easy to wipe clean, but I run warm and noticed the heat during longer sessions. The Kraken Pro is only available in black leatherette, so there is no fabric option for people who dislike the heat retention of synthetic leather. That heat retention may be welcome in winter, but it is a drawback in warmer rooms.
