In what seems a surprising turn of events, Total War: Warhammer 40,000 might get its world-first gameplay reveal later today. It comes from Chinese social media posts, partnering with SEGA and its Total War: Warhammer 40,000 booth at BiliBili World in Shanghai.
The news comes from a social media post referencing some events, prizes and other details about Total War. The post has been shared to Total War subreddits and translated to English. In the translated version, the interesting part reads:
“For the 41st Millennium — our officially licensed Warhammer 40,000 pieces join the prize pool at the Total War: Warhammer 40,000 booth. Where the game makes its world-first gameplay reveal, presented by SEGA and Creative Assembly.”
Could we actually get gameplay reveal from Total War: Warhammer 40,000?
The post is certainly direct in saying that a gameplay reveal is coming soon. It’s not too far out in the realms of possibility either. Creative Assembly have been gradually showing gameplay aspects in their sit-down streams, telling the community what they have been up to. In a fairly recent dev vlog, it showcased how solar systems look in-game, going into detail on a Hive World with a Space Marine ship in nearby space.
The video also went into detail on destructibility. It featured actual Astra Militarum on a planetary battlefield, surrounded by ruins of a Hive World, alongside a more frozen wasteland planet too. At the time, the devs were boasting about how destructive they want battle maps to feel. We got to see how that reflected the environments, backdrops and sky boxes too. It’s also shared how factions are designed in unique ways too. So the faction concepts and core Total War aspects are already locked in.
So seeing actual gameplay with all these elements in motion might not be entirely unrealistic.
It’s interesting that it comes from BiliBili World though. Total War does have a large Chinese audience. Warhammer 3’s Grand Cathay is heavily linked to pushing interest in the region. Dropping an exclusive world-first reveal at the event is one way to get the large Chinese audience on board.
If you’re a westerner, the stream is supposedly scheduled for July 11th between 11:45 and 12:45 local time. For some of you that’s within waking hours, such as the west coast USA. For us Brits though, that’s around 4AM. Chances are we’ll either go to bed or wake up to some rather interesting first looks from Chinese media on the ground.
