GF Securities analyst Jeff Pu has come out with a new research note, and in it he’s outlined five upgrades coming to the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max later this year.
First, the Dynamic Island will be smaller, since the flood illuminator used for Face ID will be moved under the display. Next, the 48MP main camera will come with variable aperture.

Pu also details three chips coming to the Pro series. The A20 Pro will be powering the devices, and it will be made using TSMC’s first-gen 2nm process and a new packaging design. The N2 chip will be the upgrade to the N1 chip that handles Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread support in the iPhone 17 family and the iPhone Air. It’s still unclear what improvements the N2 will bring, but presumably better wireless performance and/or power savings.
Finally, the C2 modem should make its way to the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. This will be significant because so far, Apple’s C1 modem was only used in the iPhone 16e, and the C1X in the iPhone Air – with the C2, Apple’s in-house modems will finally move to the mainstream Pro family.
The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to be unveiled in September alongside the iPhone Fold, while the iPhone 18 may arrive with the iPhone 18e next spring.
